Wooden furniture is favored by many families because of its natural texture and warm temperament. However, wooden furniture is easily affected by the environment such as temperature, humidity and light, and problems such as cracking, deformation and discoloration may occur if it is not properly maintained. Today, we will share a set of practical wooden furniture maintenance tips to help you keep your wooden furniture new for ten years.

  1. First, control the environmental humidity. Wood has the characteristics of thermal expansion and contraction. Too high or too low humidity will affect the stability of wooden furniture. The suitable indoor humidity for wooden furniture is 40%-60%. In the rainy season with high humidity, you can use a dehumidifier to reduce the humidity, and place moisture-proof agents in the cabinet and drawer; in the dry season, you can use a humidifier to increase the humidity, or wipe the furniture surface with a slightly damp soft cloth to keep it moist. It should be noted that wooden furniture should not be placed in a damp place such as the bathroom or kitchen, and should also avoid being exposed to rain.
  2. Second, avoid direct sunlight. Long-term direct sunlight will cause the surface paint of wooden furniture to fade, crack and peel, and the wood will become dry and brittle. It is recommended to place wooden furniture away from windows with strong sunlight. If it is unavoidable, you can install curtains or blinds to block the sunlight. When moving the furniture, avoid dragging it hard to prevent scratches on the surface and damage to the structure.
  3. Third, correct cleaning methods. When cleaning wooden furniture, you should use a soft cotton cloth or flannel. Do not use hard objects such as steel wool or scouring pads, which will scratch the surface paint. For daily dust removal, you can gently wipe the surface with a dry soft cloth; for stains, you can dip a small amount of neutral detergent with a damp cloth, wipe gently, and then wipe dry with a clean dry cloth immediately. It should be noted that acidic, alkaline and other corrosive cleaners should not be used, which will damage the paint film and wood.
  4. Fourth, regular maintenance and waxing. Regular waxing can protect the paint film of wooden furniture, enhance the gloss and waterproof performance. It is recommended to wax once every 3-6 months. When waxing, first clean the furniture surface, then apply a small amount of furniture wax evenly with a soft cloth, and then polish it with a dry cloth until the surface is bright. For solid wood furniture with natural oil finish, you can use professional wood oil for maintenance, which can nourish the wood and prevent cracking.
  5. Fifth, avoid heavy pressure and collision. Do not place too heavy objects on wooden furniture, especially on the tabletop and shelf, to prevent the furniture from deforming. When placing objects, you can add a pad under the object to avoid scratching the surface. Be careful when moving objects to avoid collision with the furniture, which will cause dents or scratches. If there are small scratches on the surface, you can use a repair pen of the same color as the furniture to repair it, and then wax it to restore the original appearance.
